Drought's Dark Shadow Falls Across Germany's Harvest The withering drought gripping Germany for much of this year will exact a painful price on the country's food shelves.
The German Farmers' Association warns of a below average harvest, with grain yields expected to be 7% lower than last year and some crops – including rapeseed and sugar beet – facing losses of up to 17%.
Southern and western Germany are particularly hard hit, with poor crop yields and even outright crop failures reported from these regions.
